Big Slate of films from 2009 Festival get release

I know we’ve been talking a lot about select films getting releases, but it’s truly one of the greatest feelings as a filmmaker to hear the words “theatrical distribution.” Amazingly this year we’ve had six films so far from our 2009 program hit the big screens.

Goodbye Solo
Downloading Nancy
The Way We Get By
Herb and Dorothy
Died Young, Stayed Pretty
Kassim The Dream

If we’re missing some or if you hear any news of of this year’s great program getting releases please comment! We are very proud of all of the filmmakers and we ask that you beg your local theaters to show these films upon wide releases.

Golden Rock Winner gets Release

Few Documentaries are as equally moving as they are effectively shot. The Way We Get By is a master class in substance and aesthetic filmmaking. We are proud to announce that the 2009 Golden Rock Documentary Winner is getting a theatrical release in select cities. TWWGB opens at the IFC Center in New York City July 17th! The film will also premiere in Boston and Los Angeles later this year in August.

TWWGB is also running a cool promotion called “Bring a Vet” and “Battle Buddy” to get FREE tickets. Check their website for details. Also twitter @thewaywegetby and join their Facebook group to get updates on further release dates.
So if you happen to be in New York in the next two weeks try and make the screening and congratulate Aron Gaudet and producer Gita Pullapilly (available for Q & A after screenings) on the release.

Kassim hits theaters this Friday

Shame on you if you did not see the touching documentary Kassim the Dream. If you’re in New York no worries because it opens June 5th-11th at the IFC Center on 6th Ave. Director Kief Davidson and Kassim Ouma will be on-hand after the screenings on June 5th and 6th to do a Q & A. You can get your tickets for the event at www.ifccenter.com or at the box office.

We’re always proud of the films in our program that get theatrical releases and distribution deals so it’s very important that we support these films in the box office or on DVD.

Herb and Dorothy doc sees release soon

Among the news of fellow LRFF alumni War Eagle getting distribution we have news of another theatrical exhibition with Herb and Dorothy, the lovely documentary about “the extraordinary story of Herbert Vogel, a postal worker, and Dorothy Vogel, a librarian, who managed to build one of the most important contemporary art collections in history with very modest means.”

Herb and Dorothy which received two packed-house screenings at the 2009 Little Rock Film Festival will now show in New York City, Friday June 5th at the  Beekman Theatre and Cinema Village.

According to their website more screenings are coming to other major cities throughout the U.S.
