Local and National LRFF Alumni head to NYC
LRFF nominee for Best “Made in Arkansas” Film, Slow Southern Steel will screen at the legendary Knitting Factory in NYC next month. Slow Southern Steel is produced by a guy named CT, who is probably the most famous Little Rock resident you have never heard of. CT is the lead singer of Rwake, an “infamous” medal band according to Brooklynvegan.com, that enjoys a World wide cult following. Slow Southern Steel documents in near academic detail the southern heavy medal scene. The film directed by David Lipke, sold out two screenings at this years LRFF, followed by an insane concert at the Rev Room downtown. Im not sure NYC is ready for this, but if you are in Brooklyn next month, you won’t want to miss the screening and concert on August 13th.
Also in August DAMN! opens a week long engagement at Cinema Village in Manhattan (August 12th-19th). DAMN! is the the story of Rent is 2 Damn High founder Jimmy McMillan, a Vietnam veteran, black belt Karate master, former stripper, and 70’s soul singer, who became an overnight sensation after his appearance in the 2010 New York gubernatorial debate went viral. This theatrical release is an essential first step in helping Kristian, Robyn and Aaron to qualify their film for oscar consideration in the documentary category.
