Little Rock’s Bonnie Montgomery unveils new Bill Clinton Opera in NYC

Many of us know Bonnie Montgomery, as the lead singer for Bonnie Montgomery Trucking, a really great country band based in Little Rock. This year they played the AfterThought Party at the LRFF. Not surprisingly Bonnie is also a writer and in that capacity she has developed a new opera about the childhood of Bill Clinton, growing up in Hope Arkansas. Last night in New York City, Bonnie held the first public reading of the opera. There were no sets or much stage direction at all, the emphasis was on the words and the incredible voices of the cast . Arkansas came out big to support Bonnie. The theater was oversold. I saw the entire crew from the Argenta Arts Foundation, writer Kyle Brazzel was there reviewing the show for the Arkansas Times, and a bunch of NYC transplants from Arkansas came out. Bonnie said that she hopes to fully stage the show in Arkansas or Memphis later this year or early next. Bonnie Montgomery trucking is playing a week long series of shows in NYC and Brooklyn beginning June 21, including shows at Cake Shop and National Underground on the Lower East Side,  and at Lucky Dog in Williamsburg.
