Amman said that if nothing else went well for him and his mom at Cannes this year, that they would get into the Terrence Malick premiere of Tree of Life. Here is his report:
“The genius director, Terrence Malick had his film, Tree of Life, premiere at Cannes this year. It is in competition for the Palme d’Or. So before the red carpet events in the evening there is a special press screening of the films during the day. Apparently at the press screening of Tree of Life most of the audience booed. This is a first for Cannes 2011.
Anyways, since Malick isn’t here at Cannes to represent his film, Brad Pitt, who is the producer and actor of the film, had to take the questions of the press. I didn’t get to sit in on the press event, but I watched it live outside. In my opinion, Brad Pitt defended the film and himself very well. I watched the film later that evening at its premiere. I heard a few boos towards the end, but it wasn’t too loud. Personally, I thought Tree of Life was one of the better films I’ve seen in a good while. Lubezki’s cinematography was the best part of the film for me, and Brad Pitt was shockingly good! Im interested if it even has a shot at the grand prize this year after the boo-ing and all. Who knows…”
