LRFF Programmer Amman Abbasi’s 2nd Report from Cannes

So all the short film makers at Cannes this year were given a free Lomography camera, but with this camera, we are told that we are supposed to make a mini movie during our time at Cannes.  They  made us write down our individual pitches on paper before they handed us the cameras.  I will keep the concept for my mini movie a secret for now, but I will say it involves throwing the camera up in the air…multiple times…

Anyways, after we are done, sometime after the festival, a celebrity jury, including Gael Garcia Bernal, will chose the best mini movie concept.  The winner will get to check out the new 35mil motion camera that Lomo is developing in Vienna.  Exciting.

On to other things:  The parties here have been amazing, the films even better.  The reception for the screening of my film L7 went beautifully.  I’ve met some extremely talented filmmakers.  Also, there are breakfasts, meetings and conferences set up for the filmmakers to meet directly with companies like Canal+, Visit Films, Sundance and other great resources.  Okay, now I’m off to throw my camera around some more.
